Watchdog panel's demand

COIMBATORE:
The People's Watchdog Committee on Coimbatore City Development Plan has urged the Coimbatore Corporation to hold a public debate on the plan. The Corporation has submitted to the Union Urban Development Ministry the plan that contains various infrastructure schemes to be implemented under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.
The committee said it held a public meeting to explain various aspects of the plan, particularly the schemes for the urban poor.
An open debate was called for at the meeting and the committee even challenged to pay the Corporation Rs. 1 lakh if the public who took part in the debate voted in favour of the Corporation's plan. The committee even asked the slum dwellers to demand a cent of patta land as a pre-condition to re-location under the mission.
