Fake currency seized, three held

CHENNAI
: Three persons, including a Sri Lankan national, were arrested on charges of possessing fake currency. The police seized 54 notes of 500-rupee denomination.
Their arrest followed a complaint from a shop owner in Adambakkam. According to the complainant, two persons purchased a prepaid SIM card for Rs 1,840, a used mobile phone for Rs 2,400 and a travel bag for Rs 240 in his shop on April 22. They gave 10 notes of 500-rupee denomination. As he suspected them to be fake notes, he preferred a complaint with the police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police A. Arun formed a special team.
Sri Lankan national Salim (33) of Kovilambakkam, Mohammad Ali alias Kader Basha (40) of Old Washermenpet and Mohammed Peria Thambi of Medavakkam Mosque Colony were arrested.
