Health festival at Piravom

KOCHI: A two-day Health festival will be held at Piravom on April 28 and 29 as part of the health care and health awareness activities of the State Health Department and the National Rural Health Mission.

Addressing a press meet in this regard, District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish said the festival, at MKM High School, would have a holistic perspective involving all streams of medicines, like Allopathy, Ayurveda, Homoepathy, Siddha and Unani.

The festival is aimed at improving the health of rural women and children. Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy will inaugurate the festival.

The State could not sustain its the low infant mortality and maternal mortality rates. The festival, the first of its kind in the State, aims to restore the good health parameters that the State is known for, said Mr. Hanish.

Medical board

A medical board, for examining disabilities, will also be held during the festival. This will be the first time that such a board was being held in a place other than the district and taluk hospitals. Disability certificates will also be issued there.

M.J. Jacob, MLA, speaking at the meet, said health cards would be issued to patients attending the festival.

There would be 30 specialists from all streams of medicines, he added. There will be camps to detect cancer, tuberculosis and a mobile eye unit to identify cataract.
