Hyderabad: A special drive will be launched against the `mafia dalals' indulging in encroachment of prime land in Hyderabad and Cyberabad. Government is seized of the matter and a meeting was already held with the DGP in this connection, said Home Minister K. Jana Reddy.

He was speaking after inauguration of the Vambay housing colony in Saidabad Mandal by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajashekhar Reddy here on Tuesday.

In response to concern expressed by V. Hanmantha Rao, Rajya Sabha MP, the Home Minister said the Government was alive to the menace posed by land sharks. He promised to take stern action if the unlawful activities of land grabbers were brought to his notice

Two years after a raging fire gutted their houses, the Singareni colony victims have now brand new houses to boast of.

The area wore a festive look as the Chief Minister inaugurated the Rs. 13.02 crores housing colony comprising 1792 houses. Speaking on the occasion, he said his Government had fulfilled the promise of providing houses to the fire mishap victims. There was need for another 3,000 houses. Government had embarked on a massive housing programme of constructing 20 lakh houses for the poor.

Nowhere in the country such a programme was taken up.

The Congress Government was committed to providing houses to all. In the next two years there would not be a single poor person without a shelter in the State, Dr. Reddy declared.

Minister for Information and Public Relations Mohd. Ali Shabbir asked the beneficiaries not to pay any money to middlemen for allotment of houses. Of the 2,000 victims, 1,300 would be allotted houses.
