Wants focus on mentally challenged and those ailing from autism, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities
|
HYDERABAD:
Nineteen parents' associations in the State and families of persons who are mentally challenged or suffer from cerebral palsy, autism and multiple disabilities have resolved to pressure the Government to focus on these four groups, which usually do not receive benefits.
This was decided at a round table organised recently at the National Institute for Mentally Handicapped by the National Federation of Parents' Associations, also known as `Parivaar' and Parent Mobilisation Action Group. The meeting wanted the Centre and the State Governments to identify the four disabled groups as a separate entity. It wanted the groups to be part of `inclusive education', particularly admission in regular schools, and proper training of teachers to deal with them.
Other recommendations include reservations in jobs for the four groups (as provided for the other disabled) and setting apart three per cent of profits of big industrial houses for community development.
