FIGHT FOR RIGHT: Ayurveda doctors in the health services protesting against the disparity in pay package and allowance in front of the taluk office as part of the State-wide agitation on Tuesday. Photo: Vipinchandran
KOCHI: The Kerala Government Ayurveda Graduate Medical Officers Federation held a sit-in in front of the taluk office here on Tuesday demanding parity in the pay scales and allowances for all doctors in the health services. The protest was part of the State-wide agitation by the federation, which held the sit-ins in three districts. Doctors representing five districts of Idukki, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Thrissur reached here to register their protests. Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode were the venues of other protests. The doctors said the disparity in pay scales in treating human beings in different streams of medicine existed only in the State. It was particularly awkward in a State, which was supposed to take a lead in providing ayurveda treatment, said M.J. Mariamma, district president of the federation. The Union Government provided same scale for doctors in all streams, she said. Two ayurveda institutions in the State under the Union Ministry followed parity in pay scales, she said. The federation demanded that the rural and post-graduate allowance be provided for ayurveda doctors too.
