IRCTC denies report

KOCHI: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has denied reports that it has stopped supply of southern Indian food items in trains. Additional general manager of the corporation J. Vinayan said in a press release here on Tuesday that items like idly-vada, upma-vada, pongal-vada and bread-cutlet continued to be served as items for vegetarian breakfast. The standard vegetarian meals consisted of rice, sambhar, vegetable curry, curd and pickle. The restriction was only on the sale of a-la-carte items, that too on trial basis for three months. — Staff Reporter

`Save Sahyadri' campaign

KOCHI: Leading environmentalists will take out a `Save Munnar-Sahyadri' ranges campaign from May 6 to 10, said John Peruvanthanam, convener of the campaign. The campaign will start from Munnar and will conclude in Thiruvananthapuram on May 10. — Staff Reporter

Coconut summit

KOCHI: Governor R.L. Bhatia will inaugurate the second International Coconut Summit 2007 here on May 13. The summit is being jointly organised by the Swadeshi Nalikera Mission and Peekay Tree Crops Development Foundation, said a press release here on Tuesday. Finance Minister T. M. Thomas Isaac will preside over the inauguration and Surendra Naik, Minister for Agriculture, Orissa, will be the chief guest. More than 200 delegates from countries like Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Nigeria and Ivory Coast were expected to participate in the Summit, said the press release.
