dated April 26, 1957: Time-speaking clock

The experimental "time-speaking clock" which gives the accurate time when a particular number is dialled is to be made a permanent feature of the Delhi telephone system. The Delhi clock is the first automatic time-speaking clock which announces the time in an Indian language. Similar clocks (giving the time in an Indian language) are to be installed in five other cities - Calcutta, Madras, Bombay, Nagpur and Kanpur. The mechanism consists of a precision pendulum clock which gives a regulated impulse every 15 seconds to a separate time-speaking mechanism. Through a sound recorder film the mechanism feeds into a microphone a set of standard announcements which are suitably modified and transmitted to the calling party.
