Haryana, WB girls in quarterfinals

KOLKATA: As the 29th sub-junior National volleyball championship entered the third day, a few more teams made their way into the knockout phase at the WBVA courts here on Wednesday.

Haryana topped Group `A' in the girls' section with an all-win record, while Andhra Pradesh is likely to finish second in the group. In Group `B,' last year's runner-up, Kerala, and Maharashtra finished in that order.

West Bengal and Karnataka emerged the frontrunners in Group `C,' while Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu made it to the quarterfinals from Group `D.'

In the boys' category, which has six teams in Groups A, B, C and five teams in Group `D,' the qualifying spots are still to be filled up. Yet, the form and reputation of the teams so far reflects better chances for the defending champion Tamil Nadu and Haryana from Group `A,' Karnataka and AP from Group `B,' Uttar Pradesh and Manipur from Group `C' and West Bengal and Nagaland from Group `D.'
