For an insight into space research

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: For students curious to get an insight into space research, the Nehru Planetarium here is organising a special summer workshop on May 5.

Titled "Space Missions", the workshop to be conducted by Planetarium Director N. Rathnasree will prepare students so that they can appear for a competition that will enable them to take part in the International Astronautical Congress for 2007.

To be held in Hyderabad from September 24 to 28, the theme of the congress this year is "Touching humanity: Space for improving quality of life."

Interested students from Delhi and the rest of the National Capital Region as well as other neighbouring towns can register for the workshop on or before May 4.

There are various categories under which students can apply for this competition that is open to all students of Classes XI and XII, graduate and postgraduate students of science or engineering and graduate and postgraduate law students.

The Indian Space Research Organisation is sponsoring 50 students for the congress through the selection process from across the country.

Various institutions are acting as nodal centres where students can register, participate through answering questionnaires and get selected as a student participant. The Nehru Planetarium is one such nodal centre. According to Dr. Rathnasree, the workshop is for all those young students who have a hunger for learning about space research.

"This is an opportunity to meet professionals from all over the world, working on cutting edge space research and hear them talk of their work," she adds. Aspiring students can contact the Nehru Planetarium on phone (No. 23014504 or 23012994) or e-mail to nehruplanetarium@gmail.com for information about the entry form for the competition.
