NEW DELHI: It promises to be a book launch with a difference. Non-government organisation Katha is releasing its children's book titled "Satyadas" in an innovative style of storytelling and reading programme at Oxford Bookstore this Friday. The book has been written by Bimal Kar. Bearing in mind that stories always remain fresh in the mind, Katha intends to promote the book-reading habit among children. The book release is also aimed at keeping alive the rich Indian oral tradition of storytelling. At a time when children are addicted to animation channels, stories not only bridge the widening gap between the rich and the poor kids but also make reading an interesting habit. The stories told to children define their attitude towards life. Stories not only improve the little one's concentration skills but also stimulate interest in them to religiously read the book. Storyteller Nupur Awasthi will create puppets and props using characters in the book as reference on the occasion. Neeta Gangopadhya, the illustrator of the book, will also be present at the launch function. Neeta has illustrated several books for children and also represented the country at the Biennial of Illustrations, Bratislava, in 1995. The book release function will be attended by students ranging in age from 10 to 14. The book is about a stranger who comes to the home of an economically backward Raghunath.
