ACTIVE PARTICIPATION: Vani Periyodi and Udaya Kumar from Break Through, an NGO, conducting a workshop in Hassan on Wednesday.
HASSAN: Delhi-based NGO Break Through launched a two-day workshop for voluntary and social organisations at CSI High School here on Wednesday on protecting women from exploitation, particularly in rural areas. Karnataka in-charge Vani Periyodi and Udaya Kumar taught them ways to tackle the problem.
Lectures
The workshop included lectures on human rights, gender discrimination and prevention of atrocities against women. Ms. Vani felt that most cases of atrocities happened to women who work as maids. Voluntary organisations should educate women on how to protect themselves in such situations. Since most maids were non-literate they became easy victims. They could be made literate through literacy programmes, she said. The workshop will conclude on Thursday. In all, 22 organisations along with teachers, social workers and members from women's self-help groups are taking part in the workshop.
