Kolkata: To enhance the skills of displaced persons at Singur, Tata Motors Ltd (TML) on Wednesday signed an MoU with the State's apex industry promotion body, the West Bengal Industry Development Corporation (WBIDC), and the department of technical education and training. West Bengal Industry Minister Nirupam Sen said Tata Motors planned to set up at Singur a centre for practical and theoretical training in auto-related trades. Four institutes have been identified to impart the customised training. These include Ramakrishna Silpamandir, Belur, the ITI at Howrah and Hooghly and ATI, Dasnagar. The course will be of nine-month duration for freshers and six months for trainees who have already completed a four-month course at Belurmath. Of the 358 project-affected youth who have already been selected for training, 17 are undergoing training at TML Jamshedpur. A total of 2,531 candidates had registered at the WBIDC Singur camp for training. Out of these, 600 were women. Over 50 per cent of the registrations were from ITI-trained youths.
