NALGONDA: Repoll for the election of local bodies' representative in the Legislative Council went off peacefully amid tight police security at Suryapet on Wednesday. Of the 37 voters, two MPs -- S.Jaipal Reddy and A.Sudharshan -- didn't exercise their franchise, according to the official sources. While the Returning Officer and Joint Collector B. Sridhar oversaw the polling process since morning, election observer P.R. Meena and Collector K. Vijayanand inspected the booth. Unlike the previous time, all the elected representatives maintained decorum and scrupulously followed the code of conduct, it was learnt. The media, which had recorded the irregularities during the polling much to the embarrassment of the officials, was not allowed to move freely this time. In the wake of alleged poll irregularities and subsequent enquiry conducted by the EC, the local municipal officials were asked to stay away from the repoll. Nalgonda RDO R. Hari Singh had been appointed as the presiding officer, Mr. Sridhar maintained.
Congress, TDP clash
Mahabubnagar Correspondent writes: The Repolling at Mahabubnagar municipal office building for legislative council seat of Local Authority Constituency passed peacefully barring small scuffle between Congress leaders and TDP supported candidate. Congress councillor C.Amarender Raju, who allegedly rigged four votes on last polling day necessitating a repoll, was prevented by the TDP men as aan arrest warrant was pending against him. However, the police said he would be arrested after casting his vote. TDP backed candidate Revanth Reddy and TDP councillor Goverdhan Yadav and their supporters tried to prevent Amarendar Raju from entering the polling station following which a small scuffle ensued between two groups. The police intervened and escorted Mr. Raju to the polling station. Speaking to the media, Mr. Revanth Reddy accused the police of behaving like Congress agents. He questioned the propriety in allowing Amarender Raju to vote as he is the main accused in rigging case. "A person who made mockery of fundamental rights of other voters by indulging in rigging, was freely allowed to vote," he said. Karimnagar Staff Reporter writes: Repolling to the local authorities constituency was conducted peacefully at Jagtial MPDO office amid tight security. All the 17 MPTC members exercised their franchise. Collector M. V. Satyanarayana said that the polling was cent per cent with all the members participating in the voting.
