THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Local Self-Government Paloli Mohammed Kutty on Wednesday reminded service organisations of their responsibility to ensure that employees fulfil their duties. Inaugurating the district conference of the Kerala Municipal and Corporation Staff Union (KMCSU) here, he said the Government would take steps to minimise the workload of employees in local bodies. "Service organisations on their part, will have to take action to improve the performance of employees," he said. Mr. Kutty said guidelines were being formulated for transfer of employees in local bodies. He added that the Government would crackdown on corruption. The Minister stressed the need to equip the municipal corporations in the State for time-bound implementation of externally-assisted projects. He said the Government had embarked upon a project for infrastructure development of the major cities in the State. External aid
The Minister said the proper maintenance of accounts had become imperative for Local Self-Government Institutions (LSGIs) if they were to avail of external assistance from agencies such as the Asian Development Bank. KMCSU district president C. Surendran Nair presided over the meeting. Mayor C. Jayan Babu, union general secretary K. Jayadevan and secretary V.R. Vijayakumar were among those who addressed the meeting. Rabies control
The conference called for a ban on the activities of organisations trying to derail the Suraksha rabies control programme launched by the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. It adopted resolutions urging the Government to revise the building tax and to set up garbage processing plants in all local bodies. The meeting also called for a revision of the staff pattern in LSGIs.
