BHUBANESWAR: A special committee of the Orissa Legislative Assembly has decided to summon a BJP legislator Baidhar Mallick, who was accused of `misusing' of MLA Local Area Development Fund. The committee headed by State Panchayati Raj Minister Raghunath Mohanty said, "we heard the district-level officials. A final decision on the controversy could be taken up only when the legislator would put forth his side." Mr. Mallick was accused that he had falsely billed about Rs 2 lakhs on construction of three community halls in Nimapara area of Puri District. The community halls were earlier allegedly built with contributions from local people. A Congress member had presented an audiocassette as a proof of the alleged misappropriation. The committee is expected to hear the BJP MLA by the end of May. MLA LAD fund in the State was recently fattened to Rs 75 lakhs. A legislator can propose any developmental project using his fund but a panel of district level officials examines the proposal before its execution.
