HUBLI: Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti has condemned the statement by Jain seer Acharya Gunadhar Nandi Maharaja against former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. Addressing workers of the Dharwad district unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) here on Wednesday, the Minister said that the swamiji should have tried to know the reasons for the absence of Mr. Deve Gowda and Mr. Kumaraswamy at a religious ceremony recently, before making any statement. Though the Jain swamiji had apologised for his statement, the incident had come as a shock to many as Jain "munis" were known for patience, he said. District unit president Shivu Hirekerur spoke. Some Janata Dal (Secular) leaders favoured holding a protest meeting against the swamiji for his statement against the Chief Minister and the former Prime Minister. However, the Minister asked the party workers not to get emotional and resort to agitation. He said the party would condemn the incident, but would not organise any agitation.
