Polls for gram panchayat seats

BANGALORE: The State Election Commission has issued the timetable for elections to be held for the 422 vacant seats in 375 gram panchayats in 27 districts of the State.

Elections will also be held at two zilla panchayats and three taluk panchayats.

The deputy commissioners of the respective districts will issue the notification on May 16, nomination papers have be filed on or before May 23 and verification will be done on May 24.

Those wishing to withdraw their nomination papers must do so before May 26.

Polling will take place on June 3 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Counting of votes will take place on June 4 from 8 a.m. at all taluk centres, according to a press release on Wednesday. — Staff Reporter

Ullal byelection

on June 2

BANGALORE: The byelection to the Ullal Assembly constituency in Dakshina Kannada district will be held on June 2. The election has been necessitated following the death of Congress MLA for Ullal U.T. Farid.

According to the calendar of events for the election announced by the Election Commission on Wednesday, the official notification for the poll will be issued on May 5 and candidates can file their nomination papers from May 8.

The last date for filing and withdrawal of the nominations will be May 15 and May 18 respectively. The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on May 16.

The polling will be held on June 2 and the counting of votes will be taken up on June 8, according to a press release from Fairoza Khanam, Joint Chief Electoral Officer. — Staff Reporter

Lokayukta official for Mandya, Mysore

BANGALORE: Vigilance Director (Urban Development) of Lokayukta K.L. Anande Gowda will visit Mandya and Mysore for two days from Thursday.

He would meet officers of the Urban Development Department, Land Records and other departments at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Mandya at 3 p.m on Thursday.

He will hear the grievances of the public on Friday in Mysore, according to an official release.

During his stay in Mysore, Mr. Gowda would also meet officials of the Mysore City Corporation and Mysore Urban Development Authority and other departments at 10 a.m. at the government guest-house.

Those who wish to file complaints may obtain the prescribed forms from the office of the Superintendent of Police, Lokayukta, Mysore before filing their petitions.

National symposium

BELLARY: The two-day national symposium on `Cutting edge technologies and IT,' organised by the Department of Master of Computer Applications, Vijayanagar Engineering College here, from April 27 will be a combination of seminars and competitions.

It will be inaugurated by K.Chidananda Gowda, former Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University.

Foundation stone

Bangalore: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Home Minister M.P. Prakash will lay the foundation stone for the India Reserve Battalion complex at Munirabad in Koppal district on Thursday.

The Union Government would provide 75 per cent of the funds required for raising the battalion which would comprise over 1,000 personnel. — Special Correspondent
