Work on Rajiv Swagruha to begin in July

Special Correspondent

1,75,562 applicants from across State for the middleclass housing scheme

  • Allotment letters to be despatched in the third week of May
  • APHB requires 10,000-15,000 acres in State for the project

HYDERABAD: Construction work on the middleclass housing under Rajiv Swagruha scheme will commence in July this year. Andhra Pradesh Housing Board (APHB) has identified 300 acres in five different places in and around Hyderabad to build 7,000 flats in the first phase.

While scrutiny of applications has begun, allotment letters will be despatched in the third week of May. District Collectors have been directed to conduct third-party verification of the applications and submit their reports immediately.

Beneficiaries will have to pay 25 per cent of the cost of the flat/house on receipt of allotment letters and the balance within four months to the APHB which, in all, received a whopping 1,75,562 applications from all towns and cities in the State.

    Identification of land

A senior APHB official told The Hindu on Tuesday that identification of land began all over the State. "The HUDA and APIIC will provide the additional land for construction of the apartments in Hyderabad, apart from the land already owned by APHB," he said. The APHB requires 10,000-15,000 acres in the State for the project.

The proposed apartments would have five to nine floors. The price of each flat might vary from location to location, depending on the infrastructure costs. "Rates once fixed will not be changed," he stated.

With regard to the construction, the official explained that apartments and houses would have concealed wiring, cable Internet, TV and phone connections besides solar water heaters.

    Big challenge

In Hyderabad alone, 40,401 applications were received. "Receipt of such large number of applications is a big challenge for the board. Till date, it has constructed 70,000 houses only. Success of the Rajiv Gruhakalpa phase - I has emboldened us," the official noted.

    Not a single form

The scheme will, however, be scrapped in 27 municipalities as the total number of applications have not crossed 100 in each of those places. Not even a single application was received until the last date in four municipalities -- Nagari (Chittoor), Mandamarri (Adilabad), Yellandu and Manuguru (Khammam).
