Road transport improvement panel set up

CHENNAI: A State-level Road transport committee has been set up for Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore to suggest short-term and long-term solutions to traffic problems in the cities, said Parithi Ilamvazhuthi, Minister for Information and Urban Development.

Making a suo motu statement in the Assembly on Wednesday, the Minister said the Chief Secretary would head the committee.

Apart from Chief Secretary, the panel will have 11 members.

CMDA Vice-Chairman, Housing Secretary, Transport Secretary, Highways Secretary; Joint Commissioner, Home (Transport) department; Chennai Corporation Commissioner, Municipal Administration Commissioner, MTC General Manager, Anna University professor Thirumoorthy, former Anna University professor Anantharajan and Prof. Tamizharasan will be members.
