Court notice on jobs for destitute women
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
A writ petition, seeking to direct the authorities to follow the statutory instructions while making appointments to vacancies in nutritious meal centres, has been filed in the Madras High Court. Justice K. Chandru, before whom the petition was filed by a destitute woman, Palaniammal of Nagalur village in Kallakurichi taluk, ordered notice to the Villupuram Collector and the Block Development Officer. Ms. Palaniammal, who has been duly certified by the revenue authorities as a destitute woman, contended that despite statutory instructions that destitute women, widows and those residing in the same village should be accorded priority in appointments to nutritious meal centres, the district administration had not strictly followed the rules.
Besides considering her application for appointment as helper in the Nagalur Government Higher Secondary School, the authorities shall strictly follow the statutory instructions governing persons entitled to claim priority in such appointments, she said.
