Policemen face departmental probe

Staff Reporter

TAMBARAM : A sub-inspector and a police constable were pulled up for their alleged offensive and irresponsible behaviour under the influence of liquor while on duty at two police stations in the southern suburbs late on Tuesday.

While the SI on duty at Shankar Nagar police station near Pallavaram allegedly shouted at a resident who came to lodge a complaint, a constable of Selaiyur police station rode a motorcycle allegedly under the influence of liquor, fell on the road, causing damage to the government vehicle he was riding.

Senior officials said a Shankar Nagar resident walked into the police station to lodge a complaint and was directed to meet the SI. When the complainant insisted on meeting the Inspector, the SI allegedly used abusive language, officials said.

The complainant then rang up senior officials who came to the spot. Medical tests confirmed that the SI was in an inebriated state. At Selaiyur, the constable was on a Blue Brigade motorcycle when he lost control and fell. He managed to take the vehicle to his house and brought it back to the police station on Wednesday morning. Investigations are in progress in both the cases.
