  • Meets Gogoi, Chief Secretary
  • Appeals to kidnappers to release P.C. Ram

Guwahati: The Food Corporation of India has urged the Assam Government and the Centre to ensure the safety of its officials and employees working in Assam and other north-eastern States in the wake of the abduction of its Executive Director (North-East) P.C. Ram by the United Liberation Front of Asom here on April 17.

FCI Chairman-cum-Managing Director Alok Sinha told reporters here on Wednesday that both the Centre and the State Government had assured him that appropriate security would be provided for all officials and employees.

    Anxiety

He said Mr. Ram's abduction had caused "anxiety and anguish" among the officials and employees. The FCI has a total workforce of 3,200 in the north-east, of whom about 2,500 are working in Assam.

    Some leads

Mr. Sinha said the Assam police got some leads about the whereabouts of Mr. Ram. He called on Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi here on Tuesday. He also met Chief Secretary P.C. Sarma and senior officials and discussed the rescue operation. Appealing to the kidnappers to release Mr. Ram, Mr. Sinha said the State Government had assured him that Mr. Ram was safe and every effort was being done to rescue him safely.
