She sings while making toys

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Music is K. Parvathy's first love. A class V student of Army School, Pangode, this 10-year-old has won over a hundred prizes at various school and State-level competitions in music.

She won the first prize in Light music, Mappilappattu, and Classical music at the State School Kalolsavam, Thiruvananthapuram South Educational sub-district held last year. Children from over 100 schools took part in the State-level competitions.

Parvathy, who did her Arangettam at the age of nine, also gives concerts at various temples in the city on a regular basis. Parvathy started learning music at the age of three. "I practise for at least an hour every day," she says. "I practice music at night after completing my studies and homework," said Parvathy, an A-plus holder in class, according to her mother.

But music is not her only forte. Parvathy also won the first prize for toy-making at the Kerala Kalolsavam. She was adjudged winner for making the most number of toys in the time allotted. "I made around 15 items at the event using cardboards, straw, kerosene cans and balloons," said Parvathy.
