Practise what you preach

Practise what

you preach

Union Minister T R Baalu has expressed need to inculcate discipline in road users. But it is ironical that many arches were erected by digging roads to welcome him. Last week Avinashi Road was dug to erect arches to welcome Mr. Stalin and Mr. Baalu.

N. Krishnaswamy,

Jubilee Nagar.

Civic schemes

This refers to M.K. Nagaratnam's letter (`Councillors' fight', April 5). I would like to allay Mr Nagaratnam's fears about development schemes being jettisoned.

New roads are being laid, drains are constructed and desilted in various parts of the city and more works will be done in a few months.

If a citizen could specify a chronic civic problem the councillor in that ward or the Corporation would attend to it. All 72 members of the Corporation Council have certainly displayed unity in passing resolutions on major development works like flyovers, sub-ways, multi-level parking, model roads, underground drainage, slum upgrading, garbage collection and disposal, etc.

Heated arguments between the ruling and opposition councilors are only over very few non-developemental issues and such things are unavoidable in a democratic system.

V.K.S.K. Senthil Kumar,

Councillor,

Coimbatore Corporation.

TV on bus

I recently went to Madurai by a government bus from Tirupur. Pirated versions of Tamil movies were shown on the bus. Because of the high decibel sound passengers were unable to talk. A few years ago TV sets were banned in buses. Instead cafeteria or pantry booths should be introduced. Installing urinal spots also can be considered.

R. Sarawanan,

Tirupur.

Bus shelter

There is a mini bus service from Elengonagar to Hope College. There are two buses but rarely do they adhere to the scheduled time. Passengers wait for long under the scorching sun. Some good Samaritan should step in to provide a shelter.

Mathew George,

Elengonagar.
