Stray dogs: court gives more time for new bylaws

Legal Correspondent

HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the High Court on Wednesday granted some more time to the authorities of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Hyderabad to frame bylaws, which would help in dealing with the menace of stray dogs.

The Bench was dealing with a taken up petition wherein the complainant suggested that the authorities had failed to curb the stray dog menace.

The Bench directed the authorities to take steps to pay compensation to the families of the deceased and made it clear that the bylaws had to be framed immediately to be put in force.

When it was brought to the notice of the court that voluntary organisations like Blue Cross were hindering the activities of the authorities in catching the stray dogs, the Bench commented that the life of citizens is paramount and authorities are supposed to act firmly within the ambit of the law.
