Thefts in MPs Flats worked out
According to the police, the accused identified as Praveen Kumar was trying to break the lock of a flat when he was caught red handed by the staff. Stolen door and window handles, bolt sticks, water taps were recovered from his possession. The accused had earlier committed similar type of offences in the area of North Avenue, M.P. Flats, Parliament Street and Lodhi Estate. His modus operandi was that he used to prepare the list of vacant flats and then commit the theft.
Call to ensure education for all
A number of academicians, policy makers, activists, teachers as well as students took part in the national round table that was organised to celebrate the Global Action Week of Global Campaign for Education by Aide et Action along with the National Coalition for Education and other non-government organisations. The need to set up a National Commission on Education was also underlined at the round table that addressed the vital issues of high dropout rate and marginalisation of children belonging to Dalit, Adivasi and minority communities.
Two held for alleged betting racket
A television set and four mobile phones were seized from their possession, the police said. Acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted and the accused -- Sandeep Gupta (32) and Pankaj Chopra (23) -- were arrested on Tuesday night. They had allegedly received bets for several lakh rupees at the time of arrest. According to the police, Sandeep was attending to phone calls and Pankaj was taking notes at the time of raid.
Two arrested
for auto-thefts
According to the police, Manoj Kumar (23) and Madan Lal (29) were arrested during a routine vehicle check on Loni Road near Balbir Nagar. During interrogation, the two purportedly confessed to having stolen the car from Shakoor Basti.
Body found
The police received a call around 9 a.m. informing them that a body was lying near the gate of Jail No. 3. The police reached the spot and found the headless body.
