THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police are tracking an anonymous person who has been making abusive calls to police stations using a prepaid mobile telephone connection. Officials said he had used the same connection to make threatening calls to several law enforcers, businessmen and officials attached to the Fire and Rescue Department Control Room. The police have located the vendor who sold the card to the suspect. An official said the suspect had procured the connection by submitting the duplicate copy of an electoral identity card photostat of which he faked by substituting the original photograph. The police said the photograph, which is of a man wearing a suit, is unlikely to be that of the suspect. The suspect used the call divert facility in his mobile phone to reroute unwelcome incoming calls. Hence, attempts made by the police to contact him have failed so far. The police were investigating whether the vendor who sold the card had connived with the suspect. A police official said most of his calls lasted less than a minute. Ninety per cent of the calls were from one particular locality.
