KOCHI: As part of launching the second phase of the Akshaya computer literacy programme in Ernakulam district, a two-day workshop for nearly 200 Akshaya centre personnel was held at Aluva this week. The Akshaya project, aimed at making Kerala a total computer-literate State, was first implemented in Malappuram district as a pilot project. Following the success and scope of the pilot project, it was extended to seven other districts, including Ernakulam. These seven districts will pass on to the second phase in July. In the second phase, schemes like e-Vidya, e-Krishi and e-Payment will be extended to these districts.
Online services
The focus of the second phase is giving training on providing online services. e-Krishi, aims at enabling farmers to access online information relating to agriculture and also sell farm products without intermediaries. e-Payment will facilitate payment of bills of public utilities like KSEB, BSNL, Kerala Water Authority and the universities. Booking train tickets, applying for passports and paying insurance premia will also be introduced, K. Anvar Sadath, a State IT Mission official, said. The training for Akshaya centre personnel at Aluva was inaugurated by P.S. Shyla, district panchayat president.
