Water supply to be disrupted

KOCHI: Water supply at Palluruthy, Edakochi and Konam areas in west Kochi will be disrupted from 8 a.m. on Friday till 8 a.m. on Saturday due to maintenance works of the main pipeline at Palluruthy, a KWA release said. — Staff Reporter

Chief Minister to inaugurate meet

Kochi: A convention of the employees working in new generation banks and insurance companies will be held here on April 29. At a press conference, trade union leader M.M. History workshop

More passports issued

KOCHI: The Kochi passport office issued 2.05 lakh passports in 2006, says an official release. This marked an increase of roughly 15 per cent over the previous year. — Staff Reporter

Six arrested

KOCHI: Six persons have been arrested from different parts of the city during the special Operation Suraksha drive by the Ernakulam Town Central police. Those arrested were identified as Nissar, 27, Biju, 22, and Lakshmanan, 26, of Gandhinagar Udaya Colony; Jagadish alias Lara, 28, of Madurai; Sudhir, 27, of Muttathara, Thiruvananthapuram; and Somon, 25, of Thammanam. They were allegedly involved in various cases of robbery, theft and drug sale. — Staff Reporter

Spare parts seized

NEDUMBASSERY: Customs officials at the Cochin International Airport seized automobile spare parts valued at Rs.2 lakh from a passenger on Wednesday night. The seizure was made from the passenger, hailing from Thrissur, when he arrived by an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah. The spare parts were hidden in his baggage in an attempt to evade customs duty. A team led by Deputy Commissioner M. K. Saseendran made the seizure. The materialswere later cleared on paying Rs.1 lakh (towards duty, fine and penalty). — A Correspondent
