This Day That Age
Mr. C. Subramaniam, Finance Minister, will be leader of the House in the Madras Legislative Assembly. According to the rules for conduct of business of the two chambers of the legislature, a Minister shall be nominated as leader in each House. The present Ministry has decided to make it a convention that, as far as possible, the leader of the House should be one who is also a member of that House. For the Upper House, Mr. R. Venkataraman, Minister for Industries and Labour, will be the leader. He is now not a member of either House. The Congress Party proposes to put him up for election to the Legislative Council in the vacancy caused by the election of Mr. M. Bhaktavatsalam to the Assembly. Mr. Venkataraman, who is now a member of the Lok Sabha, will resign his seat in that House on election to the Legislative Council.
