KATHMANDU: The Madhesi People's Rights Forum (MPRF), which spearheads the Madhesi movement, has registered itself as a political party with the Election Commission to contest the Constituent Assembly polls. The MPRF members and supporters collected signatures of over 10,000 persons and submitted it to the E.C. to register as a political party. The application has come a day before the E.C.'s deadline for party registration. The MPRF forum secretary Dip Yadav submitted the application to the E.C. With the MPRF's move, a strong player has entered the electoral arena in the Terai, which can upset the power balance in the region. The MPRF shut down the southern town of Janakpur on Thursday protesting what it called "cold-blooded" killing of a 17-year-old local, Bramhadev Thakur Barai.
