NEW DELHI: Commonwealth Games champion and record holder Geeta Rani won two bronze medals taking India's tally at the Asian weightlifting championship to six at Taian in China's Shandong Province. Geeta lifted a total of 239kg, two kilos below her 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games performance, but was no match to the Chinese lifter in the women's plus 75kg category. China's Mu Shuangshuang, the world record holder in snatch at 139kg, won the gold medals with a total of 305kg. In snatch though, she managed 132kg in her third attempt after having first notified for 135kg for her first attempt. Mu then lifted 173kg in jerk before steer way ahead of the competition. Thailand lifter won silver with an effort of 115kg in snatch, 150 in jerk for a totalof 265. National champion Geeta hoisted 102kg in snatch, two kilos less than her personal best before clearing 137 in clean and jerk to give some credence to India's campaign in the first international event after returning from one-year ban. Geeta's effort came after Renu Bala and Soma Rani came up with two bronze medals earlier this week.
