Probe ordered into posters showing MLA in bad light

Staff Reporter

Police asked submit a report within three days

  • It is a bad precedent and people behind it will be punished: Speaker
  • "People were instigated by some of the Members"

PUDUCHERRY: Speaker R. Radhakrishan has ordered an inquiry into the appearance of posters in Puducherry showing a Legislator in a bad light over his stand on inclusion of certain communities in the Other Backward Caste list, which he raised in the Assembly.

The Speaker, in his ruling on Thursday, said the police have been asked to find out the forces behind the appearance of such posters and submit a report within three days.

Taking a serious note of the incident, he said it was a bad precedent and the people behind it would be punished.

He gave the ruling after the AIADMK Member A. Anbalagan raised the matter during the zero hour.

    `Wrongly interpreted'

Mr. Anbalagan said that, his remarks in the Assembly on Wednesday about the need to include the left-out communities in the present OBC list, had been wrongly interpreted and he was even scoffed at within the Assembly premises.

He said the people, who put up the posters, were instigated by some of the Members. He sought personal protection, and demanding this squatted on the floor of the Assembly along with two other AIADMK Legislators.

He resumed the seat only after the Speaker gave the order. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy too condemned the incident.

The DMK Members also supported Mr. Anbalagan's demand for action. PMK Member R.K.R Anantharaman said the DMK and the AIADMK Members cited the case of some backward caste communities were included in the MBC list in Tamil Nadu.

He said the information given to the House was wrong and should be expunged. He urged the Speaker to take action against the Members for misleading the House.

But, the Speaker did not heed to the Members' request.

The DMK and AIADMK Members countered Mr. Anantharaman's charge and they were engaged in a heated exchange.
