NEW DELHI: Top seed Ivan Cheparinov easily defeated Parimarjan Negi to win the Sigeman chess tournament with a round to spare at Malmo, Sweden, on Wednesday. The 34-move victory for the Bulgarian raised his tally to 6.5 points from eight rounds and kept him 1.5 points clear of nearest contenders Emanuel Berg, Tiger Hillarp Persson and Jan Timman. The eighth seeded Parimarjan shared the seventh spot with second seed Erwin L'Ami at three points. The results (eighth round): Ivan Cheparinov (Bul, 6.5) bt Parimarjan Negi (3); Tiger Hillarp Persson (Swe, 5) lost to Jan Timman (Ned, 5); Pontus Carlsson (Swe, 4) drew with Emanuel Berg (Swe, 5); Jonny Hector (Swe, 2) lost to Vassilios Kotronias (Gre, 4.5); Emil Hermansson (Swe, 2) bt Erwin L'Ami (Ned, 3).
