Rupee steady

MUMBAI: The rupee closed steady at 40.90/91 against the U.S. currency on alternate bouts of buying and selling, despite strong capital inflows and weak dollar overseas.

In side-way movements at the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian unit opened firm at 40.78/80 a dollar on the back of sustained foreign fund inflows in equity markets.

It later rallied further to a high of 40.72 a dollar on heavy dollar inflows and selling pressure from exporters. — PTI
