Sreedhar (AP) humbled the top seed Keshavaperumal (TN) 6-3, 6-0 in the quarterfinals, while Srikanth Parkeh (Maharashtra) shocked the second seed H.A. `Quality players needed'
Dr. Rajat Chauhan, Consultant and Head of Sports and Exercise Medicine at the Manipal Hospital here, represented India in the recent World Congress of Science and Medicine in Cricket at Barbados. Dr. Chauhan also presented a keynote lecture on "Dysfunctional Backs in Cricketers". "Physios, coaches, trainers, dieticians, sports medicine doctors and the players have to work together so that the team excels on the field. For our population base, we should have more quality players," said Dr. Chauhan. He also added that back injury is the most common ailment that affects cricketers, especially bowlers.
PCI invites applications
The Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) invites applications from eligible athletes, sports personnel and coaches for scrutiny and nomination of the following: Rajiv Gandhi Khel Rathna Award 2006, Dronacharya Award 2006, Arjuna Award 2006, Dhyanchand Award for Lifetime Achievement in Sports and Games 2007. KSCA XI posts win
Karnataka State Cricket Association XI defeated Coorg XI by four wickets in an exhibition tie at Madikeri on Thursday. The match was organised as part of the inauguration of the Nambudumada Cup Cricket Festival - 2007, featuring only Kodava families. The scores: Coorg XI 172 for eight in the 30 overs (Shyam Ponnappa 105) lost to KSCA XI 173 for six in 21.3 overs (Amit Verma cracked 74).
Three-wkt. win
Uttam Raj (68) and Nirmith Nithyanand (55 not out) took Mysore `B' to a three-wicket win over Mysore `A' in the KSCA inter-district under-19 tournament at the Maharaja's College grounds at Mysore on Thursday. The scores: Mysore `A' 251 for eight in 50 overs (K. Somashekar 90 not out, N. Bharath 40) lost to Mysore `B' 254 for seven in 50 overs (Uttam Raj 68, Nirmith Nithyanand 55 not out). Mandya 260 in 48.2 overs (M.S. Varun 92) bt Chamarajanagar 137 in 32.2 overs (G. Jayanth four for 14).
Athletics meet
The Karnataka Athletics Association (KAA) will conduct the Boost World Athletics Day Meet for the age-group of 10 to 17 years at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore on May 12 and 13. Selection camp
The Dakshina Kannada District Football Association will conduct a three-day selection camp at the Nehru Maidan, Mangalore, from Saturday to select the district team for an inter-district tournament being organised by the Karnataka State Football Association at Bangalore in May. Those who have represented Mangalore University and local clubs may appear for the selection camp.
Carrom tournament
New Mangalore Port Sports Council has postponed a two-day carrom tournament scheduled for this week to May 30 and May 31 in view of poor response.
