Sreesanth sparkles in Muthoot ECC B's win

KOCHI: Minutes after inaugurating the 26th Coromandel Cement all-Kerala tournament, Indian cricketer S. Sreesanth helped host Muthoot ECC `B' thrash Ernakulam CC Trust by 145 runs in the event's opener at the Nehru Stadium here on Thursday.

Sreesanth scored 45 and then picked two wickets for 30 runs. Sanjay (75 not out) and Vinod Menon (4-19) also impressed in the host's win.

In another match, Oktopals SC (Thrissur) prevailed over Chittoor CC on with a superior run-rate and entered the second round.

The scores: Muthoot ECC `B' 253 for four in 30 overs (Hamza 54, Sanjay 75 n.o., Sreesanth 45) bt Ernakulam CC Trust 108 in 25.3 overs (Sunil Pallan 27, S.Ratheesh 27, Vinod Menon four for 19, Sreesanth two for 30).

Chittoor CC 161 for nine in 30 overs (Jayakrishnan 36, Unnikrishnan 25, Hareesh 25 n.o., Arun Alex three for 15) lost to Oktopals SC, Thrissur 146 for three in 22 overs (Jaffar 52 n.o., Raghu 43). Oktopals won the rain-hit match on a superior run-rate.

State football league

The Western Union State football league will be held at the Corporation Stadium here from April 29 to May 8.

"The winner will get Rs. 25,000," said the Kozhikode District Football Association secretary A.V.M. Ashraf at a press meet here on Thursday. "The runner-up will get Rs. 15,000, while the team which finishes third will become richer by Rs. 10,000."

Six teams, including reigning champion Viva Kerala, will compete in the tournament.

Match postponed

The Videocon Kozhikode District `B' division football league match between Nellikode Brothers and Exclusive Club, scheduled for Thursday, has been postponed to Friday.
