Counting of votes for Council repoll today

Total numbers of voters are 795 in which Congress has 429 members

NELLORE: While political parties are busy making their calculations over fate of contestants, tight security arrangements have been made for the counting of votes for the Local Authorities' Constituency (LAC) of the revived the Legislative Council.

The month long wait triggered with the Election Commission (EC) ordering repoll both at Saidapuram and Podalkur mandals in the wake of many literate Zilla and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency members belonging to the ruling Congress, who despite being educated and physically fit, had reportedly taken the assistance of helpers with a view to establishing themselves voted in favour of the party's official nominee C. V. Sesha Reddy, will come to end on Friday when the counting of votes will begin at Zilla Parishad premises.

And fate of the Congress nominee as well as the Independent, who has resigned from the Congress and backed by both the TDP and Communist Party of India (Marxist) Bommireddy Raghavendra Reddy will be known in a few hours after the counting.

The total numbers of voters are 795 in which the ruling Congress has 429 members -- 31 ZPTCs, 325 MPTCs, 66 councillors and corporators, six MLAs and one MP -- while the TDP has 289 members in which 15 ZPTCs, 218 MPTCs, 56 councillors and corporators.

The CPM has 26 members -- 22 MPTCs and four councillors and corporators - while the Communist Party of India (CPI) has one MPTC, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 14 -- six MPTCs and eight councillors and corporators.

There are 36 independents comprising 26 MPTCs and 10 councillors and corporators.
