KOCHI: Kerala Private Medical College Managements' Association has decided to approach the High Court against the fee structure proposed by the Fee Regulatory Committee, headed by former judge P. A. Mohammed. Association chairman George Paul said the committee had no powers to fix a fee structure and impose it on the medical college managements. The committee can only clarify doubts regarding profiteering by the managements, he said. Mr. Paul said that the management representatives, who appeared before the committee on Thursday, had asked the members about any doubts related to the aspect of profiteering. The committee informed us that there were no doubts in this regard, he said. The association termed the committee's decision to fix the fee structure as a clear defiance of the High Court order on admission to self-financing colleges for the new academic year. Referring to the fee structure proposed by the committee, Mr. Paul said that it was totally `unviable.' The committee was adopting double standards by not announcing the fee structure for self-financing medical colleges under the Government at Kalamassery and Pariyaram, he said.
