Government to brand rice varieties soon

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The Government proposes to brand and sell the jeerakasala, gandhakasala and basmati varieties of rice. This was announced by Minister for Agriculture Mullkkkara Retnakaran at a meeting of the chairmen, vice chairmen and secretaries of the development agencies for paddy cultivation of Onattukara, Pokkali, Kattampalli, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kuttanad, Purakkat, Thuravoor, Thrissur, Ponnani and Vaikkom, the District Collectors concerned and officers of the Agriculture Department. A Paddy Board would be formed to coordinate the work of the agencies.
He said the Government was planning to give a festive touch to the planting and harvesting of paddy to make them a people's movement.
