BHUBANESWAR: Utkal University of Culture, the only institution of its kind in the country, will confer honorary doctorate degrees on prominent poet and former Sahitya Akademi president Ramakant Rath, Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee and versatile Odissi vocalist Kasinath Pujapanda of Puri and New Delhi-based noted painter Jatin Das. They will receive the honours during the convocation of the university to be held at Jayadev Bhawan here on May 8. Addressing newsmen here on Thursday, Culture Minister S.N. Patro said that India Council of Cultural Relations Chairman Karan Singh would address the function. Culture Secretary Gopinath Mohanty was also present. The government allotted 48 acres of land for permanent campus of the university at Madanpur village on the outskirts of the city, Mr. Patro said. The museum for Madhusudan Das, popularly known as Madhu Babu, constructed at Cuttack with Rs.1.81 crores would be inaugurated on Saturday coinciding with the 159th birth anniversary celebrations of Das, the Minister said.
Museums
He further said that the government decided to set up museums for several prominent personalities at their birthplaces. While the one for Biju Patnaik would cost Rs. 1.91 crores, the museum for Harekrushna Mahatab would come up at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.5 crores, Fakir Mohan Senapati Rs. 1.9 crores and Bagha Jatin Rs. 72 lakhs.
