BHUBANESWAR: At a time when the process of rapid industrialisation in the State triggered a public debate on the precise development model that Orissa should follow, two organisations declared to prepare a state-level atlas showing paradigm of developments achieved during the last four decades. The State and district level atlases of six select districts containing comprehensive data and analysis on subjects, including population, literacy, land resource, agriculture, livestock and workers will be brought out by August 2008. The project has been undertaken by the Foundation for Ecological Security (FES), a voluntary organisation with support from Concern Worldwide India, a funding agency. Speaking at the inception workshop for the proposed atlases here on Thursday, FES Executive Director Jagdish Rao said the objective of the initiative was to strengthen the information base available to various stakeholders in the development process for effective planning and implementation.
Info analysis
The information would be analysed with support of other stakeholders on causes and effects with respect to the trends in various parameters of development over a period of time, Mr. Rao said. Orissa has been attracting huge investment from mineral-based industries. Of late, it has caused social tensions around proposed project area. As a result, policy makers and people are confused over choosing right model for development for the State.
