4.5 kg gold donated to Srisailam temple

KURNOOL: A devotee donated 4.5 kg gold ornaments to Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy at Srisailam. The temple authorities who opened the "hundi" on Thursday found the gold ornaments in three bags. They were valued at Rs. 45 lakhs. This is the highest donation ever received by the temple in the form of gold. The temple authorities said normally, the hundi collection account for 250 grams of gold every month. Along with the large quantity of gold, this month's hundi collection included Rs 42.85 lakh currency. - Staff Reporter

Naxal surrenders

ADILABAD: Madavi Korke alias Manohar, a Gond tribal Commander of C section of the Maoist 14th platoon in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, surrendered to the district police on Thursday. A resident of Pathigaon village in Aheri taluka he worked for the Maoists for nearly three years. At a press conference Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar and Bellampalli Additional SP K. Ramesh said he was involved in five exchanges of fire with the police in Gadchiroli. - Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Secretaries Association will meet on April 29 to chalk out an action plan to pressurise the Government to scrap the Village Revenue Officers system as ruled by the Andhra Pradesh Administrative Tribunal. - Staff Repoprter

VSP to set up joint venture

VISAKHAPATNAM: Steel major Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) would join hands with the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) to set up a Rs.15,000 crores joint venture company in Chhattisgarh to produce four million tonnes of iron and steel per year. - Special Correspondent

KURNOOL: Fifth Additional Sessions Judge B. Ravindrababu awarded life imprisonment to 20 persons in two different murder cases at Nandyal on Thursday. The deceased in the two cases were Scheduled Caste persons. - Special Correspondent
