  • Pakistani militant suspected to be part of a core team

NEW DELHI : Three alleged militants, including a Pakistani national owing allegiance to the banned terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, were arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police outside Dilli Haat here on Thursday.

The police claim to have recovered 2 kg of RDX, three detonators, two hand-grenades, a timer and Rs. 25,000 in cash from them.

Acting on a tip-off that some militants would gather near the Dilli Haat entrance gate, a Special Cell team under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar laid a trap. The three were arrested around 7-30 p.m. after the consignment of explosives was seized from them.

During interrogation, they identified themselves as Abu Kasim, a Pakistani national, and Shafaqat and Shabbir, residents of Jammu and Kashmir.

The three reportedly confessed that they belonged to LeT. Shafaqat and Shabbir allegedly said that they were recently directed by their handler to hand over the consignment of explosives to a Pakistani militant.

The police suspect that the Pakistani militant was part of a core strike team sent to carry out explosions in the Capital.

"The terrorists are being interrogated to find out the task assigned to them. As of now, we do not know from where they arrived in the Capital and when," said Mr. Alok Kumar.

The police, in coordination with Central intelligence agencies, are trying to identify and track down other members of the terrorist module.
