`Foreign militant' killed in encounter
SRINAGAR:
A suspected foreign militant was killed on Thursday in an encounter in the frontier district of Kupwara, while a local militant had fallen to death from a hill in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, a police spokesman said. The foreign militant was killed in a joint operation carried out by the Army and the police at Mangawar-Chandigam in Lolab area of Kupwara, 115 km from here in the afternoon, he said. Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the possession of the slain militant, whose identity was being ascertained, he said.
Identified as Shabir Ahmad of the same area, the spokesman said he was active in militancy for the past four years and the cause of his death is reported to be slipping from the hilly terrain. PTI
