Restrictions on VIP treatment at Tirumala

Staff Reporter

TIRUMALA : The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams board of trustees, which took strong exception to the way some temple officials conducted themselves during the visit of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai to the temple town last week, imposed several restrictions on extending treatment to VIPs. The board discussed the issue at length and resolved to dispense with the system of extending the VIP break darshan facility to dignitaries, who fall under the non-protocol category, including film stars, industrialists and cricketers, from Friday to Sunday in the interest of the ordinary devotees.

The meeting chaired by TTD chairman B. Karunakar Reddy also strictly prohibited `photo sessions' by non-protocol dignitaries on temple premises. The board directed its executive officer K.V. Ramanachary to submit a detailed report within a month. It decided to raise the price of the VIP tickets from Rs. 200 to Rs. 500 from May 1.
