HYDERABAD: Come new academic year, the APSRTC will introduce exclusive student services from the city outskirts to the main junctions of the city and from the city hinterlands to the outskirts and neighbouring districts where a string of engineering, dental and medical colleges are located. The services will begin plying from June 15.
Dangerous travel
"Students are packed like sardines in autos and seven-seaters in the city fringes and travel dangerously to reach their colleges," RTC Hyderabad Zone Chairman K. Sanjeeva Reddy said here on Thursday. Speaking after releasing the Ranga Reddy region's bus and route timetable books, Mr. Reddy said the modalities of the student specials were being worked out and the destinations and number of services would be decided shortly. "We will operate the special services for a month and depending on the response continue them." The APSRTC City region was also likely to get 700 additional buses during this financial year surpassing the previous year's sanction of 650 buses, he said. "Since last two years there has been tremendous increase in the occupancy ratio in the city region. Nearly 36 lakh commuters ply in RTC buses in the city everyday against 33 lakh commuters earlier." Ranga Reddy Regional Manager S. Nagaraju said the books would have information pertaining to sector-wise and destination-wise availability of various types of buses being operated from Mahatma Gandhi Central Bus station and Jubilee Bus station, including ticket fares and frequency of buses operated towards Vikarabad, Tandur and Parigi. The bus and route timetable would be available at all the RTC authorised booking counters, bus depots and conductors and are priced at Rs. 5 and 50 paise respectively.
