Thiruvananthapuram
The grass seems to be greener at Ponmudi these days. Large tracts of high altitude grasslands at the Ponmudi hill resort were recently destroyed in a forest fire. But the shrubbery and grasslands have sprung back, much to the delight of nature lovers and tourists. Nearly 500 acres of evergreen shrubbery was destroyed in the forest fire that ravaged the `Upper Sanatorium' early this year. The copious summer rains have come as a blessing for Ponmudi. Even the exotic pines, which were scorched by the fire, have sprouted new leaves. The early pine trees at the resort were planted at the behest of the ruling family of erstwhile Travancore.
