HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justice J. Chalameshwar and Justice Appa Rao on Thursday directed the State Government to take steps to provide jobs under the reservation quota for physically challenged persons in Group I posts of all the departments. The Bench was dealing with a case wherein allegation was made that reservation was not being provided in Group-I cadre for the physically challenged. The Government took a stand that physically challenged persons cannot be accommodated in many of the departments and then agued that the police and fire services departments had to be kept out of the purview of reservation for the physically handicapped. Justice Chalameshwar, made it clear that there were enough posts in all the departments, which could be allotted to physically challenged persons. The Bench said that the State cannot escape from the responsibility as mandated in The Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995.
